To my students and parents:

Thank you for visiting my site. I created this site to keep you up-to-date on classroom assignments, provide homework handouts for absentee students, and include links to pertinent information. In addition, this website fulfills a requirement for one of my classes to complete my masters.

Please take a few minutes to peruse through the pages.

My Background:

I am a native Coloradoan, having been born here in Aurora in 1973. I went through primary and secondary school in Colorado Springs and attended college at Western State. I transferred to Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for my junior and senior years.  I returned to Colorado Springs to teach high school in Falcon District 49. I taught there for 6 years at Sand Creek High School.

My husband, who is in the Navy, and I moved to Washington in 2003. I took a break from teaching for a couple of years in order to be home with our two small children. We moved back to Colorado this past summer. My husband is now stationed here and so we are hoping to make Aurora our home for at least the next few years.

I am finishing my masters in educational technology and curriculum from the University of Phoenix. I pursued this degree because I believe in technology integration in the classroom is an integral aspect of educating our kids for the future.

Elements of the Short Story Unit Overview

We are soon starting a month-long project to write a children's short story. Students will review the elements of the short story as well as what makes a short story a success.  Students will work by themselves or with a partner to write a children's story. They will then create a PowerPoint  presentation to present to their classmates and possibly to a group of elementary students. The PowerPoint presentation covers the elements of the short story and the guidelines for the project. In addition, there is an e-Assessment available to test one’s knowledge of the elements of the short story.

The e-Assessment requires registration to QuizStar.

Have a question or comment about reading and writing? Ask it in the class forum. You will need to password to post, so please e-mail me.
